The new intelligent dialogue application developed by HKChat OmniServe achieved a significant milestone within five days of its trial launch release on November 20. In that short time, HKChat claimed the top spot on the city’s app store free app rankings, a success which underscores the strong demand in the local market for homegrown artificial intelligence (AI) services.
The company’s aim was to develop a product that would be an “AI buddy” for users and, by virtue of its speed and convenience, become a valued part of everyday life. Therefore, the app integrates information from the government’s open databases to deliver real-time updates on everything from policies to transportation and public services.
Close collaboration with local academic institutions has also made it possible to build a dedicated knowledge base. This covers diverse areas, making it easy for users to check the latest details on topics ranging from dining options, shopping promotions and the weather to the procedures for obtaining social welfare support and legal information. As a result, HKChat users can enjoy ready access to intelligent online services which are both practical and personalised.

That now joins the iOS and Android platforms on which the app was already fully accessible and means that users can be served citywide on all major mobile operating systems.
Other key features adding to the overall experience include not just text and voice input, but also image recognition. With this, people can snap or upload images for instant analysis.

With just a few quick taps on the screen of a smartphone or mobile device, this makes it possible to get reliable answers to all manner of questions, solving problems and effectively addressing routine needs and concerns along the way.
“We will keep improving the app based on users’ feedback because we are creating an AI assistant that truly belongs to Hong Kong citizens,” Professor Guo says. “It is more than an information provider— it is an everyday companion. We aim to partner with more local companies to integrate AI services seamlessly into every aspect of daily life.”
