Welcome to the South China Morning Post's coverage of the inaugural Asia CrossFit Championship, live from Shanghai's Luwan Gymnasium. We'll have live streams of all the events, as well as highlights, results, photos, updated leader boards and plenty of on-the-ground coverage from our man Patrick Blennerhassett.

We're back again for the third and final day of the Asia CrossFit Championships from Luwan Gymnasium in Shanghai. Our roving reporter Patrick Blennerhassett is at the event to give updates throughout the day. Stay here for all of your ACC needs as some of the world's elite athletes try to book their tickets for the CrossFit Games. Jonathan White


Morning all

First heat of team event out there now. Some questions as we look to finish off the first ever ACC: can anyone dethrone Kristin Holte? Can someone pull another Zeke Grove in the men's category like yesterday, and will Froning and company book their ticket to the CrossFit Games today? Answers to come. Patrick Blennerhassett



Questions for day three

Outside of Rich Froning, Canada's Brent Fikowski is the biggest name here. Watching him prep and compete all weekend, I now understand why he has been nicknamed "The Professor". He is so calm and clinical. this photo sums him up perfectly, the guy barely looks like he's breaking a sweat. A treat to watch in action. Patrick Blennerhassett

Handstands are tough, and then add walking. But the final group of the team event, which features Rich Froning's Mayhem Freedom, make it look easy. Most teams in the previous heats couldn't complete this event. Patrick Blennerhassett



Head and hands above the rest

Another win for Froning and Mayhem Freedom. These guys came to win and nothing else. So barring a major miracle, it looks like Mayhem Freedom will book their ticket to the 2019 CrossFit Games. Our man on the ground in Shanghai, Patrick Blennerhassett, has officially gotten the CrossFit fever. Sadly it looks like he could use some training tips from Rich Froning.

Our man Patrick Blennerhassett scored an interview with Rich Froning and his team, who just booked their ticket to the CrossFit Games. Froning said the ACC was a great event, and now they turn their focus to Games preparation.
"There's always things to work on, but I think it went as well as it could," Froning said.
On travelling and staying in Shanghai: 
"Thirteen hours off, after a 16-hour flight and we've been in a couple of different AirBnB's here, so not extremely happy with that part, but extremely happy with how our team performed."
On training for the upcoming CrossFit Games: 
"We're going to be heading to Rogue (2019 Rogue Invitational in Columbus, Ohio on May 18-19), so we'll do that and then after that we'll take about two or three weeks to not be stressed out about a competition. And then the first of June we'll crank it back up again."

Heat three for the men getting judges instructions for the first event for the men. Fikowski and Hong Kong's Ant Haynes up in a bit. They're both in heat five.

Ant Haynes currently sits third behind Josh Woodhull and Brent Fikowski. He's already booked his ticket to the CrossFit Games, so the question is, does he take it easy today, or will he go full out and try to send a message to the CrossFit world? He'll be lined up beside Fikowski again.



Can Haynes come back?

This is a pretty common sight after each event. Athletes so waxed they drop to the floor in agony. You can tell these events are designed to weed out the weak. The first few heats of each event, which feature people and teams who just qualified by the skin of their teeth, and most of them are having trouble even finishing these gruelling events.

Fikowski's walking handstand game is solid. I feel like he's done this before.

Haynes is trailing. Dare I say it -- he looks a little tired today.

Josh Woodhull just won the first event for the men, and is rewarded with a protein shake. He was amped after winning too. Fikowski a few seconds behind, however, I have a sneaking suspicion The Professor planned this all along.



To the victor goes ... the shake

Just landed some exclusive information straight from the Asia CrossFit Championship's stat people on Josh Woodhull's chances of overtaking Brent Fikowski after he won the first event of day three and sits second.
"Would need to beat him by nine spots. Brent holds the tie-breaker over Josh. Brent would basically have to get injured. Actually, Woodhull would have to beat him by one more place than the number of points behind him entering the event. He can't overtake him on tie-breaker," said the eggheads.
Translation: looks like Fikowski is going to the CrossFit Games.

Women up

Fourth of fifth heat for the women and no one finished the rope climb/handstand walk in the 10 minute time frame. Once again, CrossFit designed this event to find the limits of its athletes.



Tough going

There are lots of photographers here working for the Asia CrossFit Championship snapping some wicked photos. This might be my new favourite, Fikowski flipped upside down doing the handstand walk.

Also just got word that no women at all has finished this event, and we're in the fifth and final heat.

Kristin Holte has finally been dethroned in an event as Alethea Boon just won the handstand/rope climb. However, Holte came second and was only a few seconds behind. Boon sits fifth so it looks like Holte doesn't have much to worry about heading into the final event.

Haynes finishes strong and does Hong Kong proud. Gets in under the five-minute mark.

And that's a wrap for the competition portion of the Asian CrossFit Championship 2019.
Credit to the judges, volunteers and crew who put on a good show here in Shanghai. No major hiccups that I've heard of.

All over on day three

This is what it's all about. Brent Fikowski, Kristin Holte and Mayhem Freedom all nabbed invites to the CrossFit Games.
CrossFit commentator Brian Friend's predictions turned out to be correct and the story stayed on script. No upsets and none of the winners ever really looked like they were in any trouble.

Fittest in Shanghai

Brent Fikowksi takes the men's event by a distance, he'll take some beating at the CrossFit Games. Josh Woodhull and Ant Haynes actually tied for second on points but Woodhull took the $2,000 check on a tie-breaker.

Kristin Holte comfortably took the top podium spot in the women's event. In second was Eik Gyladottir, who just announced that she will go to the CrossFit Games as winner with Holte already qualified. Third place went to Alethea Boon.

Mayhem Freedom, Cookeville, Tennessee, take the team event by a distance. Team Invictus Grown Strong take the runners-up spot. In third it's Torian Black.
