Hong Kong basketball chairman Norman Chan steps down after 35 years at the helm
Departure comes months before deadline for National Sports Associations to meet new Code of Governance requirements that included term limits

Change in local basketball could be on the cards after the announcement earlier this week that the man who had overseen the development of the sport in Hong Kong for more than three decades was stepping down.
On Tuesday, the Basketball Association of Hong Kong, China (BAHKC), announced that its chairman, Norman Chan Shui-tim, had resigned because of “busy personal affairs”, with executive committee member Chan Chi-hung elected as his successor until 2027.
“It’s not reasonable for one person to be at the helm for such a long time,” said Norman Chan, who had served as chairman since 1991 and will now become the permanent honourable chairman of the association. “It’s good to have rotation. Now that I have left, everyone is happy; the government is happy too.
“There were merits and faults during my time, but I am always open to criticism. I deserved those if I did not do well.”

Term and age limits, as well as stricter oversight on the horizon, were among the requirements, and NSAs had been given two years to comply.
