China basketball star Guo Ailun reportedly lost almost 10 million yuan in investing scam
Guo and his family are allegedly victims of large-scale fraud perpetrated by a close friend, a mainland sports media outlet reports

Chinese basketball star Guo Ailun has reportedly been scammed of almost 10 million yuan (US$1.45 million) by an acquaintance, with his family reporting the incident to police.
A mainland sports media outlet reported on Sunday night that Guo and his family were allegedly victims of a large-scale fraud perpetrated by a close friend, and there was currently no clear word on whether the missing funds could be recovered.
The “friend” reportedly induced Guo to transfer almost 10 million yuan under the guise of an “investment share”. Following the transfer, Guo lost contact with the suspect, and the whereabouts of the funds remained unknown.
Guo’s family has filed a report with public security authorities in Shenyang, in Liaoning province. Local police have officially opened a case, which remains under further investigation.
Guo left the Liaoning Flying Leopards after 14 seasons in 2024 to sign a two-year deal with fellow Chinese Basketball Association side the Guangzhou Loong Lions.

Mainland prominent basketball commentator Yang Yi previously revealed in a podcast that Guangzhou offered Guo a maximum salary of 6 million yuan a year, which implies the alleged scam could negate the earnings from the 19 games Guo has played for Guangzhou.
