National Games: Hong Kong’s Lee and Leung cycle to gold – then aim to catch world’s best
Chloe Leung credits teammate Ceci Lee’s growing confidence after they attack early to win the Madison at Hong Kong Velodrome

Cyclists Ceci Lee Sze-wing and Chloe Leung Wing-yee clinched Hong Kong’s sixth gold medal of the National Games on Sunday – and credited it to a growing confidence about what they are capable of.
A composed performance by the duo to win the women’s Madison at a raucous Hong Kong Velodrome blew away the opposition along with Leung’s pre-race nerves, and she said it was Lee’s new-found bullishness that had set the tone.
Winner last week of the road race, a triumph also built on teamwork, Lee saw no reason not to demand more of the same in the Madison, in which one rider at a time is active before hand-slinging or pushing their partner into the fray.
Success in Tseung Kwan O saw Lee match the tally of Siobhan Haughey, who on Saturday became the first Hongkonger to win two golds at a single Games. Lee could yet add a third before the Games are out.

“Before the competition today, Ceci told me: ‘The road race was so difficult and still I managed it. We’ll be OK with this,’” Leung said, as Lee headed off to prepare for Monday’s omnium.
