Man United must ‘become killers’, says Ferdinand, urges patience with beleaguered Amorim
Old Trafford legend tells the Post why his old club must stick with Portuguese boss, says Rangnick warning hangs over club

Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to keep faith with beleaguered head coach Ruben Amorim, and said Ralf Rangnick’s warning that the club needed open-heart surgery was growing more prescient with every setback.
Appointed in November last year, Amorim has failed to inspire an upturn after United chiefs ran out of patience with predecessor Erik ten Hag. Former interim boss Rangnick issued his verdict on the 20-times English champions’ ills back in April 2022.
Amorim’s 10-month reign plumbed new depths with a Carabao Cup humiliation by League Two Grimsby Town last week, although a late 3-2 victory over Burnley on Saturday earned the Portuguese some breathing space.
And the former United star, who has focused on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast after quitting a TNT Sports punditry role this summer, said it was imperative that his old club remained behind 40-year-old Amorim.
“The manager said when he came there would be pain, and Ralf Rangnick’s comments about the club needing open-heart surgery cut deeper the longer time goes on,” Ferdinand told the Post on the sidelines of the World Football Summit in Hong Kong on Thursday.

“But the more we [United] keep changing managers, the more that statement will grow in relevance. We have to be patient and go through a bad time with this manager. We’ve invested in him, and invested in recruitment around him. We can’t just rip that up.
