Hong Kong target Kai Tak Stadium sell-out for Bangladesh clash with cheap tickets
City team hoping to attract a packed house for Asian Cup qualifier, tickets priced HK$80 to HK$200 and come with chance to win car
Football bosses have targeted a full Kai Tak Stadium for Hong Kong’s crunch Asian Cup qualifier against Bangladesh next month, offering fans cheap tickets and the chance to win a car.
But the location for November’s potentially decisive home clash with Singapore remains in doubt, with the match falling four days after the National Games rugby sevens tournaments finish at the 50,000-seat Kowloon venue.
Hong Kong are level on points with Group C leaders Singapore after two matches. They face Bangladesh away next Thursday, before the reverse fixture at Kai Tak on October 14.
The Football Association of Hong Kong, China (HKFA) announced on Wednesday they would again charge between HK$80 (US$10) and HK$200 for entry, after those prices drew more than 42,000 for June’s qualifying victory over India.
“Our goal is to fill the stadium,” Eric Fok Kai-shan, the HKFA chairman, said. “We hope we can bring new supporters so we grow the demographic and keep building the Hong Kong fans culture.
Fok said the Bangladesh double-header was “critical” for the association’s ambition to “drive local football”.
