Hong Kong warmed up for their blockbuster Asian Cup qualifier against Singapore next week with an entertaining 1-1 draw against Cambodia on Thursday.

When Wong Wai’s clever finish capped some fine build-up play after 31 minutes, it was just reward for the city team’s dominance at Hong Kong Stadium.

But just as 7,480 boisterous fans, roughly 42,000 fewer than are expected to watch against Singapore at the plusher Kai Tak Stadium next Tuesday, were bracing themselves to be royally entertained, Cambodia struck straight back.

The 41-year-old Wang Zhenpeng, earning his seventh cap more than three years after he gained his sixth, misjudged a deep Sosidan Nhean corner from the right.

With the goalkeeper stranded, Krya Saret climbed above Sun Ming-him to equalise.

Hong Kong, ranked No 148 in the world, twice struck the woodwork after half-time but they could not force a winner against their No 179 ranked opponents.
