Tai Po head coach Lee Chi-kin said he would be open to managing Hong Kong, as local football chiefs extended their silence over the future of head coach Ashley Westwood to a fourth day.

Sources have told the Post that Westwood would be leaving his job following the defeat by Singapore on Tuesday that cost the city team their place in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup finals.

While the Football Association of Hong Kong, China (HKFA) stayed quiet, the pair of Philip Chan Siu-kwan and Tse Ka-wing had their say on this week’s events.

Tse said he had wanted to face Singapore, despite Westwood saying the goalkeeper told him he was struggling with the pressure of deputising for injured No 1 Yapp Hung-fai.

Chan and Tse’s club boss, Lee, has performed a U-turn after previously saying he was not interested in leading the Hong Kong side. “I have a lot of experience, I know more and I’m much better than before,” he said.

Lee, whose team moved level on 14 points with the local league’s top two, North District and Kitchee, after they beat Eastern District 1-0 on Saturday, was clear that he was not touting for a role that is currently occupied.
