Striker Matt Orr is expected to leave Shenzhen Peng City after his contract expires and could be heading to Chinese Super League (CSL) champions Shanghai Port, a move that could force Hong Kong teammate Alex Jojo to look for a new club.

Orr’s departure is just one involving a number of Hong Kong footballers who play in the CSL, with defender Yue Tze-nam, who was earlier confirmed to be leaving Meizhou Hakka at the end of this month, reportedly set to join Beijing Guoan.

Shenzhen announced on Monday that the 28-year-old Orr was leaving, having played in 46 matches in all competitions over two seasons, scoring five goals after joining in early 2024.

In a farewell post on social media, the club described Orr as having “demonstrated excellent adaptability, intelligent movement, and sharp finishing” since joining, and had become “an important part of the attacking system”.

They also hailed him for “making key contributions” in matches.

Before the move was made official, rumours had already started to swirl in mainland Chinese media that Orr was highly likely to join Shanghai Port, with reports saying the player and the club “had reached an agreement”.
