Kevin Leung Kai-fan’s headaches and sleepless nights started last weekend. He thought he might have caught something from his daughter, who had a mild cough.

To be safe, he took a home Covid-19 test on the Monday, dismissing any possibility of a positive return because he received his second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in May. It was positive.

Leung was shocked. He thought the lateral test he bought from a Liverpool pharmacy may be faulty, but then on Tuesday he lost his sense of smell. On Wednesday, he was unable to taste his food, and he knew he had the coronavirus.

Hong Kong’s first and only professional darts player said he blamed himself for being complacent, suspecting he caught the coronavirus while training at a snooker and darts centre in Liverpool in preparation for the upcoming European Tour qualifiers.

“It was quite unexpected because I was basically thinking after two jabs your defence against Covid-19 was strong,” Leung, 37, nicknamed “Fat Beauty” in Hong Kong, told the Post. “The last tournament I didn’t perform that well, so I went to the centre to practise for five or six days, six to eight hours a day, so I probably caught the virus there.
