Siobhan Haughey rounded off a triumphant weekend at the Toyota US Open swimming championships with her third title of the meeting – and another record time – in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The 26-year-old Hongkonger continued to position herself as a medal prospect for next year’s Paris Olympics as she won the 100 metres freestyle, one of the two events in which she claimed silver at the Tokyo Games two years ago.

And she did it in a meet record 52.94 seconds at Greensboro Aquatic Centre on Saturday to maintain the form that made such a splash on Friday, before Katie Ledecky – among those she had already beaten – closed the championships with a dominant 1,500m free win.

Haughey, who also took silver in the 100m at the World Championships this year, powered to the win ahead of Torri Huske and Abbey Weitzeil of the United States, with Huske finishing second in 53.17 and Weitzeil third in 53.53.

Her victory followed her strong opening salvo on Friday, when she beat Ledecky in Haughey’s other favoured race, the 200m free, and returned less than half an hour later to upset Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Lydia Jacoby in the 100m breaststroke – only an occasional discipline for Haughey.

Ledecky, who had also settled for second in the 400m free behind Canadian teenager Summer McIntosh, closed with a characteristically dominant 1,500m win in 15 minutes, 46.38 seconds.
