Hong Kong triathletes set for National Games rehearsal in Chinese championships
Large squad poised for National Championships, with qualification for November’s Games races up for grabs

Hong Kong’s triathletes have been told to prepare for a stern test of their National Games medal credentials when they face the cream of the mainland crop in this weekend’s China National Championships.
“This will be a much closer reflection of how the National Games will look,” Wright said. “For the provinces, it’s not as important as the Games, but there’s a lot of pride involved.
“Most of the mainland athletes used the test event to see the course. They all tried in the relay, but it looked to me like a lot of them weren’t trying in the individual races.”

Having not seen a course map for Xuzhou until a few days ago, Wright underlined the advantage of November’s Games races being staged in Hong Kong.
However, he said he expected a no-excuses outlook from his squad this weekend. Hong Kong are going to the mainland mob-handed, although all attention will be on the leading athletes in their final selection race.
