Coleman Wong Chak-lam of Hong Kong is relishing his next date with US Open destiny as he prepares to face Australia’s Adam Walton in the second round in New York on Thursday.
World No 173 Wong pulled off a stunning 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 victory over 71st-ranked Aleksandar Kovacevic of the United States at Flushing Meadows on Monday, to become the first men’s player from his city to win a grand slam singles match since the Open era began in 1968.
Now, the 21-year-old has declared himself ready to make history again. He will take on Walton, ranked 85th in the world, on Thursday.
