Hong Kong athletes hope hosting World Championships inspires tenpin bowling boom in city
300 athletes will compete for their countries and regions, while the city’s bowlers hope for more world-class competition hosted locally

Hong Kong will host the IBF 2025 World Tenpin Bowling Championships for the first time next month, bringing 300 athletes from 31 countries and regions to the city.
Held at the Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP), and a specially constructed venue at Queen Elizabeth Stadium, the championships will involve singles, doubles, trios and team events.
Team Hong Kong, led by Asian Games medallist and world champion Wu Siu-hong, are targeting the successful defence of their trios title.
Wu, who along with teammates Tony Wong Kwan-yuen and Ivan Tse Chun-hin won men’s gold at the 2023 World Championships, said he was looking forward to competing in front of home fans, despite the pressure that brought.
“The more fans come, the more excited we are. But we just enjoy the game first,” he said.
Tse added: “I hope to draw strength from the support of Hongkongers and family to perform my best, even with the extra pressure of competing on home ground.”
