Hong Kong rower Chiu Hin-chun taking gold-plated confidence into National Games fight
Olympian says Asian Championships triumph after victory in world’s B final has him on course for competitive showing in Guangdong

Chiu Hin-chun believes his gold medal at the Asian Championships has proved his readiness for the National Games rowing events, which begin in Guangdong on Thursday.
A confidence boosting triumph at the regional competition in the lightweight single sculls has the Olympian dreaming of more glory at the Guangdong International Rowing Centre.
And while the 31-year-old’s focus will be on his main discipline, Chiu will also compete in the mixed doubles of a beach rowing event alongside younger teammate Cheung Yuen-shan.
“The standard at the National Games is going to be very high,” Chiu said. “I had to win at the Asian Championships to prove my competitiveness at the Games.
“Both the world [in September] and Asian Championships were preparation for the Games, and I am happy to have achieved my target.”
Racing in the men’s lightweight single sculls A final in Hai Phong, Vietnam, two weeks ago, Hongkonger Chiu finished the 2,000m course on the GIA Dam River with a significant advantage.
