Ng Pak-hang has said the emergence of a promising crop of youngsters would end the current situation of Hong Kong’s leading cyclists being asked to spread themselves too thin.

The 26-year-old, who finished fourth in last week’s National Games time trial, was part of the team pursuit quartet eliminated in qualifying on a fruitless opening day for the city’s athletes.

Ng said he and teammates Vincent Lau Wan-yau, Chu Tsun-wai and Mow Ching-yin had not prioritised training for the pursuit, owing to their road commitments and the fact that Chu is a Madison medal hope.

“With more riders coming through, we’ll be able to have track and road specialists and fully focus on our own events,” Ng said at the Hong Kong Velodrome.

“With not so many riders, we’ve had to put in the effort on the road and track, which is quite difficult.”

The 16-year-old Lee Wan-chun won road race gold at the recent Asian Youth Games, while Daniel Yip Hon-man claimed 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championships junior road race gold.
