On Friday, Hong Kong’s men got to do something they hadn’t really had a chance at doing in the past few years, and that’s play in a meaningful game of rugby sevens in front of their home fans.

The rather desperate Melrose Claymores competition that arose from the rubble of a demolished HSBC SVNS Series barely registers every April, so the National Games gold medal clash against Shandong was a welcome return to serious sport.

There was plenty going on as we reached the end of the first official week of the Games, with Siobhan Haughey back in the pool in the semi-finals of the women’s 100 metres freestyle and more medals up for grabs at the Velodrome.
