National Games: Siobhan Haughey wins 100m freestyle gold to complete dominant double
Hongkonger’s second gold makes her city’s first to top podium twice at a single edition, but she says she ‘didn’t have high expectations’

Siobhan Haughey said she did not have high expectations of herself heading into the National Games, yet on Saturday she won her second gold medal inside two days.
The Hongkonger dominated the women’s 100 metres freestyle final at Shenzhen Universiade Centre Swimming Pool in much the same way as she did the 200m almost 48 hours earlier.
Already its most decorated Olympian, Haughey became the city’s first athlete to win two gold medals at a single China Games, and on her own has matched the most golds Hong Kong has won at a single edition of the multi-sport event.
And it was a good day all round in the pool for the city’s swimmers, with Adam Mak Sai-ting winning bronze in the men’s 200m breaststroke final little more than 30 minutes later in a new city record time.

Leading from start to finish, Haughey touched the wall in 52.89 seconds, with Shandong’s Yang Junxuan claiming silver in 53.55 and Cheng Yujie of Jiangxi taking bronze in 53.65.
