Hong Kong’s Henry Leung Chi-hin said he has had a “good start” with his new coach despite losing in straight games in the opening round of the Hong Kong Squash Open on Monday.

Leung lost 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 in a tight battle with world No 13 Jonah Bryant, with the Briton advancing to the second round at the Hong Kong Squash Centre in 37 minutes.

Despite his loss, Leung said he was happy to “play a close game” throughout.

“I didn’t play too well this season,” the 30-year-old said. “I started with some injuries and perhaps I am getting old.

“But I am happy with my performance today. I pushed him all the way, made him run and forced some mistakes from him.

“But he’s just more solid, especially during those key moments. It’s a pity in the second game when I was leading 8-6 but failed to close out. In the third game, perhaps I was breathing too hard, and he must have noticed too. I tried to slow the game down and I did all I could.”
