Hong Kong Lacrosse Sixes a ‘chance to test strategies’ for 2028 Olympics
Home teams make mixed start on day one of three at Hong Kong Football Club

The Hong Kong International Lacrosse Sixes began on Saturday and brought mixed fortunes for the home teams as the shortened format’s Olympic debut loomed large.
With qualification for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles soon to begin, this three-day tournament at Hong Kong Football Club was “a good chance to test strategies under the sixes format”, according to Hong Kong women’s player Woo Ka-yu.
“We will see what needs improving so we can perform better at future events,” Woo said.
She and her teammates opened with a 14-7 win over South Korea’s Ratels in Pool A before falling 16-9 to Japan’s JLA Sixes R&D Squad, who led the pool. The hosts remained in contention for a semi-final spot, while another Japanese team, SELL, led Pool B, followed by the Philippines.

The city’s men’s team endured a tougher start, losing 26-4 to defending champions Fogo Grizzlies of Japan. For them, progress will depend on Sunday’s decisive pool match against mainland Chinese side SLDL. Germany led the other pool.
The competition features seven men’s and seven women’s teams, with the top two from each pool advancing to the semi-finals and the rest playing classification matches.
