Hong Kong’s young fencers have matched their senior counterparts by winning a host of medals at the FIE Junior and Cadet Épée World Cup in Bahrain on Thursday.

Days after the men’s team claimed foil gold in Paris, the city’s 10-strong youth squad finished with two golds, one silver and one bronze in Manama, the capital of the island nation.

Picking up where he left off a fortnight ago in Switzerland, Wong Pak-yiu beat teammate Anthony Ho Shing-fung to seal his second consecutive World Cup gold medal, while Vivienne Lee Man-wai also took the title in the girl’s event.

Her compatriot Ivana Lee claimed bronze after losing in the semi-finals.

Wong, who won gold in Basel at the turn of the year, was among the six boys and four girls from the city involved on Thursday.

The 15-year-old went unbeaten in the pool stage to earn his top seed status, and then swept aside opponents from Belarus, Egypt, Turkey and teammate Song Hang to reach the final.
