The Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show returns to the city on Friday, bringing some of the world’s best equestrians to the AsiaWorld-Expo.

Back to defend her grand prix title is Denmark’s Zascha Nygaard, who will take on the likes of Britain’s John Whitaker and France’s Simon Delestre over three days of five-star show jumping.

Hong Kong duo Jacqueline Lai and Clarissa Lyra will also strut their stuff, while in a first this year, the region’s best junior riders will compete in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Asian Youth Challenge.

It will not just be horses and athletes on display, with a dog agility performance and the return of the Shetland Pony Grand National, with eight pint-sized ponies steered around a track by jockeys aged eight to 14, also on the programme.

The city’s top jockeys, including Zac Purton and Vincent Ho, will get in on the act by mentoring their younger counterparts.

Outside the arena, families are catered for at the shopping village, where visitors can design their own digital horse, enjoy food and drinks courtesy of some of the city’s top hotels, while the children’s zone has a variety of interactive activities, including a hobby horse contest.
