Hong Kong swimming star Siobhan Haughey makes record-breaking start to Asian Games year
Olympic medallist wins two gold medals at Dubai meet, setting a record in doing so, six months out from facing key rivals in Nagoya Games

Hong Kong swimming star Siobhan Haughey has made a record-breaking start to the Asian Games year, with gold medal wins in both the women’s 50m and 200m freestyle at the three-day Dubai Swimming Championships, which ended on Sunday.
The 28-year-old won the 50m freestyle final in 24.67 seconds just on Friday, breaking the meet record.
Haughey then competed in her strongest event, the women’s 200m freestyle, finishing first in 1:54.85. She was more than three seconds ahead of the runner-up, with her time close to her personal best of 1:53.92.
As Hong Kong’s most decorated Olympic athlete, Haughey also joined other Olympians in an interview at the event to share how they refocus when a race does not go as planned and move forward with confidence.
“First you take a breath, kind of let go all of the negative energy, and then I do a simple evaluation of either that training set or the race competition,” she said.

“So always point out something that I did well, something that I want to improve on. And if it’s something that’s out of my control, I drop it and don’t think about it.”
