Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards: fencer Ryan Choi, swimmer Siobhan Haughey win ‘best of best’
First-time nominee Choi takes home three awards while Haughey’s top award is her fourth among seven awards overall

Fencing world champion and first-time nominee Ryan Choi Chun-yin scooped up the big prize when he was crowned men’s “best of the best” at the Cathay 2025 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards on Tuesday.
Choi, who last year became the men’s foil individual world champion in Tbilisi and rose to the world No 1 spot, also won two other awards during the ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, attended by Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Warner Cheuk Wing-hing, and Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui.
Swimming starlet Siobhan Haughey, meanwhile, reclaimed her throne in the women’s category, with the multiple Olympic medallist being recognised for her successes at the National Games late last year. Haughey’s win adds to her three previous wins of the top award after a gap last year.
The winners were named after a one-month voting period, during which the judging panels, the media and the public selected five men’s and five women’s sports stars from 41 and 39 nominations, respectively.
Along with Haughey, the other women’s honours went to fencer Kaylin Hsieh Sin-yan, who defended her individual epee gold medal at the World University Games in Germany last July; karate world No 1 and world champion Grace Lau Mo-sheung; cyclist Ceci Lee Sze-wing, who won a hat-trick of gold medals at the National Games; and snooker starlet Ng On-yee.

Haughey’s fourth “best of the best” award was also the seventh overall award for the decorated swimmer since her first win in 2017.
