Ice hockey player Randy Mak was named Hong Kong’s newest Olympic ambassador and said he plans to use his platform to promote the sport locally and become a role model for young players.

Mak was appointed ambassador by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) at their annual dinner.

The 19-year-old will represent Hong Kong at the 66th International Session for Young Olympic Ambassadors in Athens, Greece, in June, and he plans to share his experiences from the event with athletes and youngsters in the city.

“I feel very honoured to be appointed,” Mak said. “It is a big responsibility to represent Hong Kong in this kind of way. I’m very excited for the experience in Greece, learning about Olympism and the core Olympic values, and then bringing it back to Hong Kong to inspire young athletes.”

Kenneth Fok Kai‑kong, vice-president of the SF&OC, said the appointment showed “the succession of generations within Hong Kong’s sporting community”.

“Mak represented Hong Kong, China at the Harbin 2025 Asian Winter Games, delivering a commendable performance,” Fok said. “As captain of the Hong Kong under-20 team, he led the squad to silver at the IIHF U20 World Championship. Mak represents the younger generation of athletes.”
