Bruised but unbowed, Ceci Lee Sze-wing is steeling herself for another assault on global honours days after she dramatically crashed during her UCI Track World Cup campaign in Hong Kong.

An elimination race silver medallist on her home track last Friday, Lee tumbled following a collision while competing in the same discipline as part of the omnium competition two days later.

But in Malaysia on Friday, the Hongkonger will be back on her bike and hunting a fourth podium finish from this year’s three-leg World Cup, after she claimed omnium and elimination bronzes from last month’s opener in Perth.

Herve Dagorne, the head coach, said the speedy turnaround following Lee’s weekend pile-up would allow her “another opportunity to wake up and work differently”.

“After the race on Sunday, I was in a positive [frame of] mind and I thought it was good the accident happened,” Dagorne said.

“[Lee] started in a positive mindset but she hadn’t competed with these riders for more than one year. She was still in the Asian way of racing, and the speed you have to make decisions caught her by surprise.
