ONE Championship: Younes Rabah hopes to seal top 5 spot by beating Shadow Singha Mawynn
The Algerian Muay Thai fighter feels that moving up to the featherweight division will unlock his true potential
Algerian Muay Thai stand-out Younes Rabah knows that victory over Shadow Singha Mawynn in the co-main event at ONE Fight Night 33 on July 12 in Bangkok will all but guarantee him a place in the featherweight Muay Thai top five – where the Thai star currently sits after a surging five-fight winning streak.
“I just feel excited for this new challenge for me,” Rabah told the Post. “I feel like I’m taking one more step towards achieving my goal.”
Shadow, who is ranked third after his winning run, has defeated a who’s who of elite strikers, including Hassan Vahdanirad, Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, Mohammad Siasarani, Jimmy Vienot and Erik Hehir – two of those wins coming by stoppage.
But Rabah was not that impressed.
“Shadow is talented, he’s very strong, he has all the tools to be a good name,” Rabah said. “But none of the guys he’s fought have the same style I have. They don’t have the range, the reach, the power. I think it’s a big challenge for both of us.”
Rabah is on the periphery of the top five after beating the United States’ Eddie Abasolo at ONE 169 in Bangkok last November and feels that moving up in weight has unlocked his true potential.
