Twists and turns of bike leg could decide National Games triathlon, Hong Kong’s Wright says
Triathlete Cade Wright believes compact course on city’s harbourfront could give Hong Kong team an advantage against mainland rivals

Hong Kong’s triathletes have returned from a pre-National Games training camp in “great shape” and with head coach Andrew Wright bullish about their prospects.
The team – Oscar Coggins, Robin Elg, Wong Tsz-to, Baille Brown, Hilda Choi Yan-yin and Cade Wright – spent five weeks at high altitude in Yunnan, in southwestern China, working on their endurance and getting ready to take on the country’s best.
And Andrew Wright, who is no relation to Cade Wright, said over the past six months his team had been “the most consistent and training at the highest level”.
“They have been just conducting themselves professionally like better than I have ever seen,” the head coach said. “They are in great shape. So [I am] really looking forward to the race.”
Training in Yuxi, which is roughly 1,630m (5,350 feet) above sea level, helped the city’s triathletes boost their endurance, and Wong Tsz-to said it meant that when he and his teammates “return to lower altitudes after training, our performance improves”.

With Hong Kong staging the men’s, women’s and mixed relay races along the Central Harbourfront, all six triathletes believed the bike leg would be challenging and technical, but also provide them with a chance to overcome their rivals.
