National Games: Hong Kong equestrian Annie Ho rides Lord Sandro K to seventh as Liu Tao wins
New horse was ‘a bit nervous’, she says, while dressage winner from Xinjiang becomes only competitor in final to score more than 70 points

Hong Kong equestrian Annie Ho Yuen-yan finished seventh in the individual dressage event at the National Games on Wednesday in Shenzhen.
Competing with her new horse, Lord Sandro K, Ho chose a Chinese-style musical accompaniment to earn a score of 66.935 points.
Xinjiang’s Liu Tao clinched the title with 72.425 points, the only rider to score above 70. Shanghai’s Xu Mofei followed with 69.52 points, while Guangdong’s Gu Bing finished third with 69.045 points.
Hong Kong Jockey Club CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges presented awards to the riders at the Shenzhen Guangming International Equestrian Centre, which the club has supported during the Games.
Ho, who has been working with Lord Sandro K for only a few months, said: “Every time I compete, I have to learn something new. This time, I had to work on my relationship with the horse, as we had been together for only a few months.

“The horse was a bit nervous on the first day but gradually settled in. I guess it had never performed on such a big stage before.
