Swedish table tennis star Truls Moregard has targeted another Hong Kong career boost as he returns to the city still savouring the memories he made last time.

Olympic silver medallist Moregard is in the line-up for next month’s year-ending World Table Tennis (WTT) Finals, and is hoping he finds Hong Kong, which will host it, a happy hunting ground again.

As the world No 5 turned his attention to proceedings at Hong Kong Coliseum from December 10 to 14, he recalled the step up he took during an ITTF World Tour leg at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in 2019.

“I have many good memories,” the 23-year-old said. “I was very young and not in the top 100 in the world. I was trying to make a statement, and after that tournament, I went on to be top-100, so it was like a little barrier I took there in Hong Kong.

“I also got many days to visit the city, and I rode on the ferry many times and climbed up to The Peak once. I was having a great time … I love the city, it’s very cool.”

Moregard added that he was “very excited to eat some good food”, but his first priority is having another crack at China’s finest.
