The city’s men and women will battle for bronze in their respective divisions at the Hong Kong International Lacrosse Sixes on Monday, after falling short in the final four.

A young Hong Kong men’s side were hammered 21-1 by Germany, ranked seventh in the world, at Football Club on Sunday, while the women went down 20-5 to Second Era Leaders of Lacrosse (Sell) from Japan.

Defending men’s champions Foggo Grizzlies beat their Japanese compatriots JLA Sixes R&D 21-12, and only the Europeans stand between them and retaining their title.

Sell, meanwhile, face Team Philippines after the relative newcomers beat JLA Sixes R&D 18-13 to reach the women’s final.

Bronze would still represent a fine effort for Hong Kong’s men, with several players missing the tournament as they prepare for the Asia-Pacific 10-a-side Championships in New Zealand next month.

That has allowed some younger players to gain experience at international level.
