Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey followed up her 100m win the previous night by winning the 50m freestyle at the China Open Swimming Championships, while Australia’s Cameron McEvoy won the men’s event by almost a body length to break the world record.

Not long after winning the 50m, Haughey also won a silver in the 200m freestyle.

As she did on Thursday, Haughey won at the Longgang Universiade Centre Natatorium in Shenzhen by the narrowest of margins, finishing in a time of 24.41 seconds, just ahead of Chinese swimmer Cheng Yujie, who was only 0.01 seconds behind.

Almost as close was 24-year-old American Olympic champion Kate Douglass, who stopped the clock at 24.44s. Douglass was also third in the 100m on Thursday.

Teammate Gretchen Walsh, the eighth-fastest woman in history in the 50m, finished fourth after clocking 24.46 seconds.
