ITTF World Cup: Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi-kem ousted by China’s Wang Yidi in ‘wonderful match’
Exit of city’s No 1 women’s player follows that of only teammate Lam Siu-hang the previous night, while world No 8 moves into last 16

Hong Kong’s top women’s player Doo Hoi-kem was eliminated from the ITTF World Cup in Macau on Wednesday, after losing a group-stage match 3-1 to China’s Wang Yidi.
Doo’s exit follows that of teammate Lam Siu-hang the previous night, ending Hong Kong’s participation in the tournament. Lam, like Doo, also finished second in his group.
Doo fell 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4 to her friendly rival, finishing the group stage with one win and one loss to place second and missing the 16-strong knockout round.
Wang described the encounter as “a wonderful match”, with both athletes performing well.
“Doo started very quickly, particularly in the first three strokes,” she said. “I perhaps didn’t handle the service returns very well. Her loops are occasionally quite deep.”

Wang noted that winning the third game was crucial, admitting she was “fortunate to get a net cord” against Doo at 9-8.
