Another night of action in Paris, and some remarkable performances from some incredible athletes.

The feats of strength, agility or dexterity on display never cease to amaze, and last night was no different.

So, while you were catching your beauty sleep, here’s what happened overnight in the French capital.

Hou remarkable

Hours after China’s Li Fabin defended his weightlifting title, which most people were awake for, it was Hou Zhihui’s turn, and she certainly made her supporters sweat.

The diminutive 27-year-old went through all the emotions in a see-saw battle with Romania’s Mihaela Cambei.

Tied neck and neck throughout, it took an Olympic record lift of 117kg on the second attempt with every sinew shaking for Hou to finally retain her crown.

Cambei claimed a well-earned silver, with Thailand’s Surodchana Khambao winning bronze.

China making waves

There was gold for China in artistic swimming, the sport that changed its name from synchronised swimming.
