Hong Kong Sevens dates released, world championship to again start in city
World Rugby hails record attendance and says SVNS World Championship will take place at Kai Tak Stadium from April 9 to 11
World Rugby has released the schedule for next year’s HSBC SVNS Series and World Championship, with Hong Kong again a key stop in the season.
The city will host the opening leg of the SVNS World Championship from April 9 to 11 at Kai Tak Stadium, with the three-stop tournament then moving on to Spain and France.
Dubai will stage the series opener over the weekend of November 28, with the series heading to Cape Town seven days later. Singapore gets the new year started on January 30 and 31, followed by events in Perth and Vancouver, before the regular season wraps up in New York on March 13 and 14.
Last year, Hong Kong set a new single-day attendance record of 41,457 fans on the way to a total crowd of 113,395. In total, the 2026 season attracted more than 530,000 fans, a 21 per cent increase from 2025.
“The success of the past season, including record-breaking attendance in Hong Kong and continued growth across our digital and social platforms, demonstrates the increasing visibility and strength of rugby sevens around the world,” Sam Pinder, World Rugby Sevens general manager, said.
