Coleman Wong gets his wish to face Wu Yibing in National Games tennis semi-final
Wong is already guaranteed a medal in Zhuhai, but hopes to repeat his past victories over Wu and reach gold match

Coleman Wong Chak-lam will get the semi-final he wanted at the National Games on Wednesday, with a rematch against ATP Tour rival Wu Yibing.
The Hong Kong star battled his way past Cui Jie in the last eight in Zhuhai on Tuesday, winning an initially tough encounter 7-5, 6-0 to guarantee himself at least a bronze medal.
And in a courtside interview after the match, he said he wanted to face “Wu Yibing again if possible”.
Wu, meanwhile, eased through his first set against Sun Fajing, was pushed harder in the second, but ultimately won through 6-1, 7-6.
Wong and his Zhejiang counterpart have history. The pair met in the Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023, with Wong winning that encounter, and the Hongkonger came out on top in the eastern city’s ATP tournament the following year, when Wu retired hurt at a set down.

“I want to play against him and play a great match,” Wong said. “It was always exciting [to play against him] – I beat him at the Asian Games in Hangzhou but I lost in the quarter-final and didn’t win a medal.
