Hong Kong tennis star Coleman Wong progresses to second round of Delray Beach Open

The 21-year-old beat world No 45 Nuno Borges in first round, will face either 2014 US Open winner Marin Cilic or world No 29 Brandon Nakashima

Hong Kong tennis star Coleman Wong Chak-lam continued his strong start at the Delray Beach Open after beating a top 50 player on Monday.

Making the main draw after two qualifying round victories over the weekend, Wong, who is ranked No 137 in the world, stunned Nuno Borges of Portugal 2-1 at the Delray Beach Tennis Centre to seal a second round spot.

The Delray Beach Open features some of the biggest names in tennis, including Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud and Frances Tiafoe.

Wong beat Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan and Australian Tristan Schoolkate in straight sets in the qualifying rounds.

In his match against Borges, Wong found himself 3-0 down after conceding his first service game in the opening set.

At 5-2 down and facing a break point as well as a set point, the resilient Hongkonger reeled off three straight points to win the game, then broke Borges and won his service game to level the score at 5-5.
