The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or Apec, is an intergovernmental organisation intended to promote free trade among its 21 members located in the Asia-Pacific region, including China and the United States.
The dispute between Beijing and Tokyo erupted on November 7, 2025, after Takaichi became the first Japanese prime minister to explicitly state that any use of force by Beijing against Taiwan could be a “survival-threatening situation” for Japan, suggesting that the country’s military could intervene.
