Philippine President Duterte raises 2016 South China Sea tribunal win at United Nations

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte raised the issue of the South China Seas in a September 22, 2020, speech before the United Nations General Assembly. He affirmed his country’s commitment to the UN Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and a 2016 arbitral tribunal ruling which favoured Manila over Beijing in a dispute concerning a Chinese state-owned company’s dredging work in the disputed Spratly Islands.
