North Korean leader Kim Jong-un pays tribute to grandfather on death anniversary of state’s founder

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited his grandfather’s mausoleum on July 8, 2021, in the capital Pyongyang. Accompanied by his new top officials, Kim paid tribute to the state’s founder Kim II-sung on the 27th anniversary of his death. In late June, the nation reportedly saw a major leadership reshuffle, with several high-ranking officials sacked for neglect of duty in the country’s Covid-19 response, according to state media.
