At least 40 dead, many missing as flash floods sweep across northern India

At least 40 people have died and many others were displaced by flash floods in north India over three days since August 19, 2022. Heavy rain flooded rivers, destroyed bridges and inundated homes in the mountainous states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Landslides and floods are common in India’s Himalayan north during the monsoon season from June to September.
