Rescue efforts intensify to free 40 Indian workers trapped for days in collapsed tunnel

Indian authorities are working to free 40 workers who have been trapped in a collapsed tunnel in north India for five days. A 4.5km (3 mile) tunnel was being built in Uttarakhand state on a national highway when it collapsed in the early morning on November 12, 2023. Police have reportedly said they were ‘very optimistic’ they would retrieve the workers safely.
