Bangladesh court slashes civil service job quotas for children of independence fighters

The Supreme Court of Bangladesh slashed the number of civil service jobs reserved for children of people who fought for independence from Pakistan in 1971 on July 21, 2024. Graduate unemployment is high in Bangladesh and student protests against reserved jobs turned violent in mid-July. Quotas for disabled applicants and those who identify as neither male or female have also been cut.
