South Korea's former defence minister Kim Yong-hyun offered to resign on December 4, 2024, following President Yoon Suk-yeol's failed implementation of martial law, the defence ministry said. Opposition parties had also filed a separate motion to impeach Kim on the same day. Yoon accepted Kim’s resignation and nominated his ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Choi Byung-hyuk, as a replacement.
