Kanchha Sherpa, the last surviving member of the first expedition team that conquered Mount Everest, died on October 16, 2025, in Kathmandu, according to the Nepal Mountaineering Association. Kanchha, aged 92, was one of 35 members who helped Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reach the 8,849-metre (29,032ft) peak on May 29, 1953.
