Indonesia repatriates 2 Dutch convicts after transfer deal, including 1 on death row

Two Dutch nationals convicted of drug offences returned home after more than a decade in prison a week after Indonesia and the Netherlands signed a repatriation deal.

Two Dutch nationals convicted of drug offences in Indonesia flew home on December 9, 2025, one week after the two governments signed a repatriation agreement. Siegfried Mets, 74, who had been on death row since 2008, and Ali Tokman, 65, who was serving a life sentence, were formally handed over to Dutch officials at a Jakarta prison before boarding a flight to Amsterdam.
