‘Tuna King’ pays record $3.2 million for bluefin at Tokyo auction

A bluefin tuna sold for a record US$3.2 million at the first auction of 2026 at Tokyo’s Toyosu fish market on January 5, 2025. The buyer, “Tuna King” Kiyoshi Kimura, broke his own 2019 record with the winning bid for the 536-pound (243kg) fish from northern Japan. The event highlights the value of prized tuna. Pacific Ocean stocks of the fish have been recovering.
