Intense heatwaves sweeping across northern India are taking a toll on both livestock and residents, just days ahead of the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha. Livestock owners have been seeking treatment for animals suffering from dehydration and heat stress. According to India’s meteorological department, a heatwave is officially declared when temperatures reach 40°C (104°F) in the plains, and 30°C (86°F) in hilly regions.
