‘Golden opportunity’: Chinese copper manufacturer reaps rewards from Trump’s tariffs

Chinese copper flat wire manufacturer Wellascent’s decision in early 2024 to build a factory in the US state of Texas was meant as a hedge against geopolitical risks. Now the company’s investment is paying off as US import tariffs boost demand for locally produced goods. The factory’s location shields US customers from the 50 per cent tariff imposed on copper wire imports, along with other semi-finished copper products.
